Recently a chest containing 175 Roman coins has been discovered. These coins were silver which makes them very rare to find especially in such a high quality. All the coins were in surprisingly great condition even though they are many centuries old. The chest of coins was found in an Italian forest. The coins were found by a group of archaeologists who were hiking in the Italian forest in 2021. The forest was near the city of Tuscany. The coins are thought to date back to 82 BC. The coins were most likely buried because at the time Roman was going through a war against the former general Sulla and his army from Asia. The silver coins were buried by a soldier to keep them safe from enemies. The soldier who buried the silver coins put them in a terracotta pot planned to come back for the hoard, but most likely died . The coins were hidden for 2000 years and are now located in the Museum of Natural History of the Mediterranean in the Province of Livorno. The coins are estimated to be worth 20000 to 25000 euros. This would have been about a year and a half wage for a Roman soldier.
